Sleep well!

unwind-recharge.com_020919

“Sleep is not an optional lifestyle luxury. Sleep is a non-negotiable biological necessity. It is your life support system.” – Matt Walker

A lack of amount and quality of sleep has a significant impact on the function of your immune system and memory and increases the risk of cancer, heart and Alzheimer disease.

The good news is that you can do quite a bit to get more and better sleep:

Go to bed and get up at the same time every day.
A regular sleeping pattern is key to improve the quality and quantity of sleep.

Keep your room cool.
Your body needs to drop its temperature to fall and stay asleep, sleep in a room with a temperature around 18 degree Celsius.

Skip large amounts of alcohol, marijuana and caffeine.
While alcohol and marijuana might help you to fall asleep, they also reduce the quality of your sleep which is essential for the functioning of your immune system and memory.

And if you find yourself sleepless in the middle of the night?
Get up, do something else (but avoid looking at screens) and go back to bed when you are sleepy. It is important for your brain to associate your bed as a place to sleep.

Please share your tips that help you to improve your sleep!

I hope you sleep well tonight!

The hidden life of trees

www.unwind-recharge.com_130809

Did you know? Trees have personalities and can learn from experiences and mistakes. They support each other, communicate together and warn fellow trees if they are in danger… They also build partnerships with other species and of course provide shelter, food and livelihood for our wildlife (Peter Wohlleben, The Hidden Life of Trees 2015, Blinkist 2019)

I love to be surrounded by trees because of the therapeutic effects of being in nature… but perhaps also because of the hidden life of trees who are and can do so much more than we realize.

Take some time off for a weekend away and explore the benefits of being surrounded by trees. One of my favorite places is the small town of Forrest – a great gateway to the Great Otway National Park where you can find some truly incredible trees.

Send me a picture of your time in nature. I look forward to hearing from you!

Thank you!

Did you know that writing thank-you notes can have extremly positive psychological effects for both – sender and reciever? This suggests research published in the journal Psychological Science in 2018.

For me that is just another reason to say THANK YOU SO MUCH to everyone who engages in this site, shares its content with friends and is so kind to write a review.

The Four Agreements

unwind_recharge_140719

The Four Agreements have been in my mind for some time. Only now I found the book written by Miguel Ruiz in a shelf of an Airbnb house up in Queensland. These four agreements will help you to navigate through the ups and downs of life. They will inspire you to change thought and behavior patterns and empower you if things are getting challenging:

1 Be impeccable with your word

Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of the word in the direction of truth and love.

2 Don’t take anything personally

Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

3 Don’t make assumptions

Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstands, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4 Always do your best

Your best is going to change from moment to moment, it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstances, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgement, self-abuse and regret.

What are the tools that help you to become the master of your mind?

I look forward to hearing from you.

Have a wonderful autumn!
